THE STORY-SURAT, APRIL 8-11

On Monday evening April 8, a group of 34 international diamantaires from the US, Singapore, UK, Lebanon, Japan, Israel, Austria, Australia, Italy and China met in Mumbai and started off the trade mission with a welcome dinner in the Grand Hyatt Hotel.

The trip commenced in the early hours of the morning with the group bonding over the train ride from Mumbai to Surat.

It was followed up with a tour of one of the finest technological facilities for diamond processing, at the offices of Lexus SoftMac & Lemon TechnoMist,  the world’s leaders in development, manufacturing technology and software for the complete diamond chain of processing, from the mines all the way to market.

Mr. Janak Mistry, Chairman of Lexus SoftMac & Lemon TechnoMist Group presented & enthralled everyone with his knowledge of diamonds, brilliance, modified cuts, fancy, and white colored diamonds.

Later Mr. Utpal Mistry, Director at Lexus, explained optimization analysis of fancy colored diamond stones through their own proprietary technology.  

After the captivating Visit to Lexus, they were taken to visit to the manufacturing facility of Hari Krishna Exports where the delegates were personally shown around the facility by Mr. Brijesh Dholakhia, Jr. CEO of Hari Krishna Exports Pvt Ltd. the group were fascinated to see the various stages which a diamond has to go through from the rough stage all the way to the final polished diamond.

The day finally ended after a trip to  Mahidharpura – the world’s busiest diamond trading market and various small scale and medium scale factories in the local polished diamond market in Surat.  

Where the delegation also visited other manufacturing units like R&Sons, Shree Hari Krupa, S.M Diamonds and Ghetiya Gems.

On Wednesday the group went for a factory visit to S.Vinod Kumar Diamond Pvt Ltd. where the delegation got another opportunity to experience the entire diamond processing pipeline from rough manufacturing to the final polish output. It was amazing to see how the 4000+ employees work in collaboration to use innovative technology to its maximum.

More visits to medium sized enterprises like Khushi Creations, which specializes in work of far sizes in white as well as fancy colors. All the attendees to this factory gained enormous insight when they saw the theoretical process being practically processed in front of them. Factory visits to Step-In Diamonds, Shubham Diamonds helped everyone to understand the process and planning that goes behind medium size manufacturing units.

The final factory visit to Parishi Diamonds Pvt. Ltd. proved to be another educative and informative visit.

Their extraordinary manufacturing ERP systems enthralled the participants showcasing how well the company was organized and technologically driven and how all the 1500+ employees were empowered to drive the company upwards.

The Surat trip was concluded with a gala dinner with Dy. Customs Commissioner – Mr. Ghanshyam Soni, and officials from the Surat Diamond Bourse, the Surat Diamond Association, the Surat Southern Gujarat Chamber of commerce and Surat Diamantaire community.

On the final leg of their trip, the delegation was warmly welcomed by Mr. Sanjay Shah – the GJEPC Convener – Diamond Panel (The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council in India) where the delegation was apprised with the Council activities and the various initiatives & measures taken by them to promote the diamond and jewelry trade in India.

GJEPC organized a tour of the Bharat Diamond Bourse and the delegation was warmly welcomed by the committee members of the Mumbai Merchant Diamond Association. Mr. Mahendra Gandhi, Mr. Rohit Shah and Mr. Vinay Dhadda took the whole delegation for a visit to the Trading Hall for the Diamond Dealers of Mumbai

The delegation ended their tour with the visit to Rapaport offices while some buyers within the group chose to visit various suppliers.

In the evening there was a networking event organized by Rapaport exclusive between the members of the delegation and some of the top diamantaires at the Grand Hyatt.
